How to Caulk a Bathtub Using the Simplest Process

Posted On October 29, 2020

One of the main issues with your bathtub that can’t wait is the removal and replacement of old, moldy caulk. This is a common problem that a lot of homeowners avoid, thinking that it’s difficult and unnecessary. However, aside from the fact that the issue is more urgent than you might think – the negative effects of mold being a sure enough reason for that – the process itself is not all that hard.

plumbing companies in Denver

Helpful plumbing companies in Denver recommend that you have to start by closing the drain and covering your bath tub before proceeding to remove the old caulk. That can already save you a lot of trouble, as it’ll be one less cleaning job to deal with. Next, simply start to slowly and carefully pry off the old caulk using a small blade and keeping a low enough angle on it to see if it’s being properly cut. Once you’re done, use a soft rag to scrape off any residue.

Next, tape off the wall by placing colored strips of painter’s tape about 3/8 of an inch apart around the areas where you need to apply the caulk. Use a caulk gun for an easier process, place it at about a 45 degree angle, and proceed to apply steady pressure as you move the gun along the joint.

Once you’re done, simply remove the painter’s tape, and use a lint-free rag or a paper towel to remove any of the remaining edges and smooth out the caulk.
